Age Limit (As on 01-08-2025)

As per the official SSC notification (Para 6.1)

The crucial date for age reckoning is fixed as 01-08-2025, in accordance with DoP&T OM No. 14017/70/87-Estt.(RR) dated 14-07-1988. The age limits for the posts as per the Recruitment Rules of various User Departments are:

  • MTS: 18–25 years (candidates born not before 02-08-2000 and not later than 01-08-2007)
  • Havaldar (CBIC & CBN), Department of Revenue and a few posts of MTS: 18–27 years (candidates born not before 02-08-1998 and not later than 01-08-2007)

Date of Birth filled in the online application form and recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary Examination Certificate will be accepted by the Commission for determining age (Para 6.3). Mismatch of date of birth is a ground for rejection of candidature.

Note (Para 6.8): Age relaxation / ESM reservation is not admissible to sons, daughters and dependents of Ex-Servicemen. Such candidates should not indicate their category as Ex-Servicemen.
Note (Para 6.5–6.6): The period of "Call up Service" of an Ex-Serviceman in the Armed Forces is also treated as service rendered for age relaxation purposes. Codes 10–13 represent a flat maximum permissible age (i.e. the upper limit itself becomes up to 40/45/35/40 years), not an addition to the base maximum age.
Date of Birth Boundary Explanation

How the official age limit translates into an exact permitted Date of Birth range

As per Para 6.1 of the official notification, the age limit is stated both in years and as an exact Date of Birth boundary, calculated against the crucial date 01-08-2025:

  • MTS (18–25 years): DOB must not be before 02-08-2000 and not later than 01-08-2007.
  • Havaldar (18–27 years): DOB must not be before 02-08-1998 and not later than 01-08-2007.

When a category relaxation applies, the upper age limit increases (or is set to a flat cap as per Para 6.2), which shifts the earliest permitted Date of Birth accordingly — the latest permitted DOB (based on minimum age) does not change. The Age Eligibility Checker above calculates this adjusted DOB boundary automatically for your selected relaxation category.

Example: For MTS with SC/ST relaxation of 5 years, the maximum permissible age becomes 30 years, so the earliest permitted DOB shifts from 02-08-2000 to 02-08-1995 — the latest permitted DOB (01-08-2007, based on minimum age 18) stays the same.
